eBay Raises Affiliate Commissions on the Low End
Beginning July 1, 2006 eBay will raise affiliate commissions on the low end. I can’t tell if the move is revenue neutral - only eBay knows, but what is apparent is that they are very interesting in driving interest in their affiliate program with people new to the program. New affiliates driving $100 - $999.99 in fee revenue winning bids can earn 50% of the fees. This is up from 40% prior to the new rate schedule becoming effective.
What is significant is that prior to this change you needed to drive $25,000 - $49,999.99 of fee winning bids to get 50% of eBay’s auction fees. The affiliate rake quickly levels out from this point and the incremental commission increases inch up from here to 65%. In the old program, commissions in the top tier paid as high as 70%.
eBay has been aggressively upping the commission ante over the past year. Under the old program active over a year ago referred bids earned a dime. These changes can increase an affiliates earnings as much as 8 - 10 times.
