Copywriting Resources
Let’s face it - some people can’t write. More to the point, some of us can write but we can’t copywrite effectively. Copywriting is a science and an art and it takes years of practice as well as a good grounding in the fundamentals to be a really effective copywriter. I constantly strive to improve my copywriting skills and in this quest I have collected some useful resources I thought I would share with you. Check back from time to time as I will update this page with new resources as I come across them.
Free Resources
The Gary Halbert Letter - Gary Halbert is one of the great copywriters of our time. He has placed all (or most) of the issues of his The Gary Halbert Letter online for free. You would do well to read them all. Gary writes elegantly and his opinions entertain. He also offers a mailing list notification when he publishes a new issue.
The Copywriters Board - Michel Fortin, another top-notch copywriter, runs a great forum focused on copywriting matters.
HardToFindSeminars - Michael Senoff has a stunning collection of audio archives of some of the great copywriters of our time speaking on the art and science of copwriting - all free. Inside this treasure trove: Carl Galletti, Gary Halbert, Herschell Gordon Lewis, John Carlton, Joe Vitale, and the list goes on and on. There are some real gems in here.
Scientific Advertising - First published in 1923 by Claude C. Hopkins, this seminal classic is still relevant today. It’s the first in a long list of recommended reading that Gary Halbert provided in one of his newsletters for aspiring copywriters. This link is for a PDF version of the book. I have read it several times and you should too.
