Do you do local PPC?

If you’ve ever needed to generate a list of city/city, state keyword combos for a PPC engine then you’re now in luck! Jon Leger has thrown together a little tool that will do exactly that.

Say you want to target the keyword phrase dental insurance for all cities in Arizona. Jon’s tools will spit out a nice list like this:

[dental insurance Phoenix]
[dental insurance New River]
[dental insurance Mesa]
[dental insurance Apache Junction]

The tool handles broad match, exact match, and phrase match. And best of all, it’s free.

Do you use Google Adwords? Yahoo Search Marketing? How about MSN AdCenter?

Do you market affiliate products?

Then I have just what you need! I recently completed a case study detailing 2 amazing affiliate PPC campaigns I ran in late 2006. What does the case study get you? A huge step up if you’re new to affiliate PPC (ala GoogleCash) and some solid techniques if you currently practice affiliate PPC. Whatever your level of sophistication, there’s something in my new case study.

Many people pooh pooh affiliate PPC. They’re probably the ones secretly earning cash like I did in this landmark case study - over $100 a day.

The Rover update for Affiliate Success: eBay was mailed to all current ASE customers early this morning. I recommend installing the ASE Rover update soon. eBay’s original cutoff for the old Commission Junction links was November 15, 2006, but they have extended that date to December 15, 2006. Personally, I would have extended the Rover cutoff to January 15, 2006 as that represents a more realistic end to the Christmas season with ample time for cleanup operations, but my opinion wasn’t solicited.

In any case, you will find the new Rover eBay affiliate links are dramatically faster than the old CJ link system and this will probably translate into a few more completed transactions. Nothing magical probably, but every sale counts.

Persistence pays.

Several months ago I signed up for several of the eBay affiliate programs on Commission Junction and I was turned down for no apparent reason by eBay Canada. Perhaps they don’t like my name or the fact that I prefer cats over dogs. In any case, I needed to be in the Canada program so I waited several weeks and applied again - and they turned me down again…

OK. So call me bull-headed, but I applied again. And this time they accepted me. Why? I dunno… I changed nothing. Same me, same websites, and I suppose I was a few weeks older , but I can’t claim new wisdom.

So, if one of the eBay affiliate programs turns you down just keep applying every 4 or 5 weeks until you get a thumbs up.

In case you hadn’t noticed, eBay is rife with copyright infringement. If you’re interested in monitoring eBay for your wares, have a look at SearchDigger. The key for free information providers is to restrict resale of their information. That won’t stop everyone, but it does give you legal recourse when approaching eBay and the legal authorities. The unfortunate fact is that most content authors never discover their stolen content and when they do they rarely do more than request that eBay remove the offending listing. A few well publicized lawsuits would probably do much to stem the tide of this growing problem.

Ars Technica, the popular technology site for PC enthusiasts, hosts a well-known free PlayStation 2 Repair Guide that instructs users how to deal with minor disk read errors. Dave Childs, the owner of ILoveJackDaniels.com, hosts a collection of equally free programming “cheat sheets” that help new programmers remember the commands of their chosen language.

Both sites were surprised to find out that not only was their content being plagiarized, but repackaged and resold on Ebay.

Sadly, though Ebay has become one of the greatest markets for selling legitimate electronic books (eBooks), its also become one of the most common methods for plagiarists to take freely available content, and package it for an easy dollar. Worse still, as scraping continues to fall out of favor with spammers, ebook plagiarism could become a greater and greater problem for Webmasters.

(Quoted: Ebay: Your Content for Sale Via Plagiarism Today.)

Beginning July 1, 2006 eBay will raise affiliate commissions on the low end. I can’t tell if the move is revenue neutral - only eBay knows, but what is apparent is that they are very interesting in driving interest in their affiliate program with people new to the program. New affiliates driving $100 - $999.99 in fee revenue winning bids can earn 50% of the fees. This is up from 40% prior to the new rate schedule becoming effective.

What is significant is that prior to this change you needed to drive $25,000 - $49,999.99 of fee winning bids to get 50% of eBay’s auction fees. The affiliate rake quickly levels out from this point and the incremental commission increases inch up from here to 65%. In the old program, commissions in the top tier paid as high as 70%.

eBay has been aggressively upping the commission ante over the past year. Under the old program active over a year ago referred bids earned a dime. These changes can increase an affiliates earnings as much as 8 - 10 times.

AjaxWrite is a new service offering a free version, of what is being compared to, Microsoft Word. AjaxWrite was released yesterday and was introduced by Michael Robertson who started things off saying, “What if there was alternative for Microsoft Word that would install and open in 6 seconds, read and write Microsoft Word .doc files and run on Macintosh, Microsoft Windows or Linux computers? And oh yeah, it was FREE so consumers didn’t have to pay $499 for Microsoft Office. I’m excited to announce that day is here.” The buzz has been amazing and the service has been having server issues on and off all day because of the amount of attention it has been receiving.

eBay has announced the winners of their Developer’s Contest. The grand prize went to Unwired, an auction tracking and last minute bidding application but my vote goes to the first place winner, ctxbay. ctxbay displays contextual eBay listings in the same way that Google delivers Adsense to your website. It’s not a standalone application that you install on your site though - they deliver the results using JavaScript.

Congratulations to our winners of the eBay Developer Challenge 2006!
We’re down here in beautiful San Diego, CA with our Grand Prize and First Place winners, who won US $5,000 and US $1,000 respectively, at the O’Reilly Emerging Technology Conference.

Grand Prize Winner: Unwired Buyer developed by Eric Smith (Developer gnumber2) Calls you three minutes before an auction closes — and lets you bid over your cell phone

First Place Winner: ctxbay by Aleksandar Stankovic (Developer astankovic79)
Analyizes Web page context and serves up contextual affiliate links to eBay.
